A finished metal model of the Centaur I cruiser tank in the markings of the Hellenic Army in Macedonia in 1957, 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Centaur, also carried as the Cruiser Mk.VIII, was a British cruiser tank and a close relative of the Cromwell. It shared the hull and the Christie suspension with large road wheels with it, but differed in its powerplant: instead of the Meteor engine it received the older Liberty aero engine, which told on its performance. The Centaur I version carried a 57 mm gun, that is the weapon the British knew as the 6-pounder.
The model is rendered in the markings of the Hellenic Army in Macedonia in 1957. Greece took over British armored vehicles after the war and kept them in service long after more modern types had replaced them elsewhere. The postwar European markings of British tanks are among the subjects that appear in display cases only rarely, and that is exactly what makes this piece interesting.
This is a finished collector model rather than a kit. From the factory it is assembled, painted and provided with printed markings, and the metal form gives it a noticeable weight. Once unpacked it is enough to stand it in a display case; there is no gluing or spraying at all.
The model is supplied finished and is not meant for any further assembly. A display case, a base and accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
