Masks for the canopy glazing of the North American A-36 and P-51 Mustang models in 1:48 scale, for the Accurate Miniatures, Italeri and Academy kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The cockpit is the first place anyone notices on an aircraft model, and at the same time the most laborious part of the masking. This set offers masks with the outline of the glazing frames, so that nothing has to be cut out of tape. According to the name they are intended for the Mustang kits in 1:48 scale from Accurate Miniatures, Italeri and Academy. How many masks the set holds, and whether they cover the side windows as well, is worth checking against the manufacturer's information.
The North American A-36 is the attack and dive version of the Mustang, fitted with dive brakes and bomb racks. The P-51 version from the start of production has the same shape of forward fuselage, so the masking of the two types overlaps. The early Mustangs were powered by a liquid-cooled Allison V-1710 V12 and had framed canopy glazing with side doors, a form markedly different from the later machines with a bubble canopy.
Wash and degrease the glazing first, then stick the masks on and press the edges down with a blunt point. Spray in thin coats so that no step forms at the edge, and do not put off removing them: a mask peels off best shortly after the paint has dried. If you want the inner side of the frames in the cockpit color, deal with it before closing the fuselage, because this set is aimed at masking the outside. Wipe adhesive residue off a clear part with a cotton swab moistened with water, since thinner would cloud the glazing.
A masking set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
