Masks for the La-5, 1:72

A set of pre-cut masks for a model of the Soviet Lavochkin La-5 fighter in 1:72 scale. It is not a model but an aid to painting. The masks are cut exactly to the shape of a particular kit, so they take the place of cutting tape by hand, which on a framed canopy takes a good part of an evening and still comes out worse.

Work tips

Take the masks off the sheet with tweezers and apply them with a dry hand; grease from your fingers will worsen the adhesion. Once a mask is on, press the edge down with a blunt tool so that paint does not run underneath. Spray the paint in thin coats; one heavy coat will run sooner than three light ones. Take the masks off as soon as the paint has taken, and pull them back on themselves at an angle. Paint the canopy frames in the interior shade first and only then in the outer one.
