About product

AK Interactive Railroad Ballast

This is a diorama material, specifically a fine natural crushed gravel suitable for faithfully reproducing track ballast and consolidated surfaces. The grain size matches railroad scenes in 1:35 scale, but the material also serves well for texturing and filling out any terrain across a wider range of bases, from small figure bases to larger scenes. It is not a paint or a kit but a loose raw material for building a surface.

Use

  • It is poured into the track bed or onto an area of terrain and spread into the shape required.
  • It is fixed with thinned PVA glue, which is dripped or sprayed onto the leveled gravel.
  • Once dry, the area can be toned with an airbrush, washes and pigments for an impression of dust and age.
  • It combines with sand, finer gravel and static grass for a natural transition of surfaces.

Who it is for

Suitable for builders of dioramas, railroad scenes and layouts who want a realistic loose surface. It comes into play during the terrain-building stage, before the vegetation and figures are placed.

The material contains fine particles. Do not inhale the dust, work in a well-ventilated area and keep it out of the reach of children.
