The Model Craft English pattern pin vice with a clamping range of 0 to 1.0 mm. A basic tool for drilling small holes with no electricity and no risk.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pin vice, also called a hand drill holder, is one of the first tools a modeler should get. This English pattern version takes drills of roughly up to one millimeter in diameter. You drill by turning it by hand, so you have complete control over the process and will not make a hole in thin plastic or resin before you have had time to decide where you want it.
The most common uses are drilling the muzzles of barrels, holes for wire handles, for aerials, for wire pins or for locating pegs when gluing resin parts. It also serves for opening up holes in photo-etched parts. A small diameter is exactly the range where an electric mini drill tends to be needlessly fast and a bit breaks easily in it.
Always mark the spot with a point first, otherwise the drill will slip on a rounded surface. Drill at right angles and without pressure, by turning alone; thin drills break from pressure, not from speed. In resin and in cyanoacrylate, pull the drill out now and then and clear the swarf away. After work, wipe the pin vice and leave the jaws slightly loosened so that they do not open permanently.
This is a tool on its own. Drills are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
