A model of the F-35B Lightning II combat aircraft from the Polish maker COBI. It is a clip-together brick kit rather than a plastic model: the parts click into each other and the build gets by without any modeling tools at all. The angular silhouette of the fuselage with its internal weapons bays and the smooth transition into the wing is built up from shaped parts, while the markings and the technical lettering are carried by printing directly on the parts.
The F-35B is the variant of the multirole single-engine fifth-generation fighter intended for short takeoff and vertical landing. That is made possible by a lift fan behind the cockpit and a swiveling engine nozzle, thanks to which the aircraft operates from short strips and from the decks of ships without a catapult. The machine is built for a reduced radar signature, which goes together with internal weapons bays and carefully shaped leading edges. Besides the American forces it is operated by several allied countries as well.
Build the fuselage as a firm core and keep an eye on whether the rows of parts sit aligned; on an angular shape every deviation shows clearly. Fit the wing and the tail surfaces last and check the symmetry of one against the other rather than one side at a time. The finest parts of the assembly tend to be the landing gear and the armament, so leave yourself time and calm for those. The finished model is sturdy, will take handling and looks good on a base as well as freely on a shelf.
The model is assembled by joining the parts according to the enclosed instructions and, once complete, it is ready to be displayed.
