Flock Dark Green

The dark green of field boundaries and ditches

The rich green material serves where grass grows lushly and without direct sun: along dirt roads, in the ditches by roads, around culverts and at the edges of copses. It is also advised for the bands above buried tanks and pipe runs, because the growth above them tends to be strikingly darker and denser in summer than the meadow around. Such a detail can give a level green area a story.

It is spread onto an area coated with scenic glue beforehand, and from a height, so that it falls irregularly. Once dry the excess is swept or sucked off and it can be used again. Layering several tones over one another gives the depth that a single color cannot manage: a lighter shade forms the base and the dark one is added in bands where light would not reach in reality.

Volume and grain size

The shaker holds 945 cubic centimeters of material, that is a supply for a larger layout module or for several smaller views. The grain is finer than with a coarse scatter, so the material does not come across as scrub in small scales but really as grass. Transitions between a mown area and a weedy shoulder are made well with it too.

The shaker with a sifting lid allows even narrow bands along tracks and shoulders to be dosed without a heap arising on the area. The material can be shaken up in between, so that the grain does not settle by size.

The shade is best complemented with taller growth, bushes and trees. On its own it forms an area, not a silhouette. Before spreading it pays off to make a test on an offcut, because the color darkens once the glue has dried and the result tends to be richer than the dry material looks in the container.
