Tamiya Foam Board 1 mm is a thin foam board of B4 format in a package of six pieces. It is used as a material for building dioramas and mock-ups; it is not a model.

Six thin foam boards 1 mm thick in B4 format, that is roughly 364 by 257 millimeters. Compared with solid plastic, the foam material is markedly lighter and above all it can be cut quickly and without effort, so it suits things that are made in larger numbers and do not have to bear a load: layers of terrain, mock-ups, fillers and one-off templates. Six sheets in the package mean that you do not have to be sparing with the material and can experiment.
Always use a new blade. A blunt knife does not part the foam cleanly but crumbles it, and the edge of the cut looks ragged. Cut with one flowing stroke along a metal ruler and keep the knife fairly vertical. Beware of chemistry: foam materials are sensitive to solvents, so try the paint and the glue on an offcut first. A safe choice is a dispersion glue for wood or paper and double-sided tape, whereas solvent glues and a hot glue gun can dissolve or deform the surface. Before painting it helps to go over the board with a thin layer of dispersion paint or gesso, which evens the absorbency out, and the surface will then take even a fine modeling paint. Glue the layers of terrain on top of one another and then sand the steps down or press modeling compound into them.
For builders of dioramas and mock-ups who need a light, quickly worked material for bulk, and for modelers who lay a scene out roughly first.
When cutting, work on a mat, run the knife away from your body and do not leave offcuts of foam within reach of small children.
