Four lacquer paints for Portuguese aircraft in the camouflage known as wrap-around, as it looked in the 1990s.
Responsibility details are not available.
Wrap-around camouflage takes its name from the fact that it is carried onto the lower surfaces as well, so the aircraft has no light belly. The Portuguese Air Force wore it on A-7 Corsair II attack aircraft, on light Fiat G.91s, on Aviocar transports and on twin-boom FTB observation machines. The scheme was created for flying low over the terrain, where the aircraft is watched from above, and a light underside had therefore become more of a liability.
The three green tones carry the designations Federal Standard 34079, 34102 and 30219 and are complemented by the gray 36622. The paints belong to a lacquer range that is applied with an airbrush, thinned with the manufacturer's own thinner and, once dry, holds as a thin, tough layer. That layer will take masking tape and subsequent washes, so it works well for building up multi-color schemes with sharp transitions.
Portugal operated A-7 attack aircraft from the early 1980s as its main strike asset, used the light Fiat G.91s for training and for supporting ground forces, and the twin-engine Aviocars flew with cargo, on patrols over the ocean and with paratroopers. The wavy patterns in green tones were common to them all.
The item is a set of paints in its own right. The aircraft and the thinner are sold separately.
