Gravel Gray Fine

A gray gravel road as you know it from the landscape

Dusty and gravel roads made up the road network for a long time and to this day they lead to every second homestead, quarry or forester's lodge. Their look is set by the stone that was at hand: crushed granite and basalt give a cold gray surface, which darkens after rain and fades in dry weather to an ashy tone. The middle of the roadway tends to be higher and cleaner, while material pushed out gathers at the shoulders and packed soil shows through between the ruts left by tires.

The set is put together for this job. The main component is 176 cm3 of finely graded stone in a gray shade, and to it the package adds 29.4 cm3 of fine powder, with which the shoulders and the trodden places without gravel are made. The grain size is chosen so that a road on a model does not look like boulders thrown about, which is the most common mistake on layouts. The content given will do for a road 4.26 m long with a width of 5.08 cm.

Procedure

Coat the base with PVA glue, spread the scatter with a slight excess and sweep the excess grain to the sides with a soft brush. Then drip thinned glue with a drop of dish soap over the whole area, so that the water does not gather into drops, and let it dry overnight in peace.
