Precision scissors for photo-etched parts

A photo-etched part is cut differently from paper. It is thin sheet metal, which twists under ordinary scissors because the jaws push the material sideways. The result is a part with a bent edge, which then has to be laboriously straightened or is ruined outright. Scissors made for photo-etch have jaws shaped so as to support the material at the point of the cut and separate it cleanly, with no twisting and no burr. The difference is obvious at once, and on small parts it decides whether they can be used at all.

Use

• Cut as close to the part as possible, but never into it; remove the remains of the tab with a file.
• Hold the part with tweezers while cutting, or it will spring away and be lost.
• Use the scissors only on thin sheet metal; do not use them on wire or hard materials.
• Do not cut material the scissors cannot take, or the jaws will spring apart and the edge will be damaged.
• Wipe the jaws after work and put the scissors away so that they do not knock against anything.
• Do not use the scissors on plastic or paper; they will go blunt faster than you expect.

The scissors suit anyone who works with photo-etched sets, that is, modelers of ships, aircraft and military subjects. It is a tool you buy once and use for years, and at the same time one of the few where the difference from an improvised solution is obvious at first glance.

The scissors have sharp jaws. Store them out of the reach of children and protect your eyes while cutting, as small offcuts fly off.
