About product

Mineshima Hobby Plier D23

A modeling plier from the Japanese brand Mineshima. The essential distinction right at the start: this is not a cutting nipper but a plier intended for gripping, bending and compressing. In the category of pliers and shears these are two different groups of tools that do not replace each other, and confusing them leads to the customer buying a tool other than the one expected.

What pliers serve for in modeling

There is more work for them than it seems. Bending wire and metal rods for antennas, grab handles, hydraulic lines and stands. Holding a small part that will not stay between your fingers and that tweezers have no strength for. Pulling out a pressed-in pin or straightening a bent metal part. Pressing a glued joint for the moment before the glue takes hold. And also fine straightening of photo-etched parts, where a flat surface is needed rather than a point.

Use

  • Bending and shaping wire and metal rods.
  • Gripping small parts firmly during modifications.
  • Pressing and drawing a glued joint together.
  • Straightening bent metal and photo-etched parts.

Work tips

On soft and visible material, put a piece of paper or thin card between the jaws, so that no imprint stays on the part. Guide bent wire as close to the jaws as possible; the bend then comes out sharp and in the place you want. Do not clip plastic or wire with the plier, because cutting tools are there for that. And above all do not tighten anything with force against resistance, because the joint of the plier does not like that and the play that develops in it cannot be taken back.

Who the pliers are for

For modelers who add parts made from wire, work with metal accessories or build dioramas. These are auxiliary pliers for the workshop, not a replacement for sprue cutters.

The shape of the jaws, the length of the tool and the material are stated on the packaging. The tool is a modeling plier.

FAQ

It is not. It is a plier for gripping, bending and compressing. Cutting nippers are there for separating parts from the sprue.

The shape of the jaws and the length of the tool are stated on the packaging.

Put a piece of paper or thin card between the jaws and the part. On visible surfaces that avoids a pressed-in mark.

The flat part of the jaws can be used for fine straightening of a bent photo-etched part. For precise bending of photo-etched parts, though, a photo-etch bender is the tool.
