Pliers for the modeling workshop. They will serve where fingers are not enough for a small part and where a firm but controllable grip is needed.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pliers belong among the tools that lie on the bench permanently. They hold a small part while gluing, so that it does not cool off in your fingers and stay stuck to them, they pull a pin out of a press-fitted hole, straighten a bent wire, press a joint together until the glue takes hold, and reach where a hand will not fit. When working with a hot part, for instance when drawing a thin filament over a flame, they are the only sensible way to hold it.
Meter out the grip according to the material. A thin profile, a tube or a photo-etched part easily carries the mark of the jaws, so put a piece of harder paper or leather between the jaw and the part. Bend wire gradually in small steps, not in one movement, otherwise a kink arises instead of a curve. Keep the jaws in line and do not use them as a lever for great force, which throws the joint out of true.
Wipe the tool dry after work, as damp in the joint and on the jaws leads to rusting. A drop of fine oil in the joint will keep the action smooth. Do not put the tool down on the floor and do not let it fall off the bench, because even a small knock can put aligned jaws permanently out of true. Remove the remains of glue from the jaws at once, as a dried layer then crumbles into the work.
For modelers who are putting together the basic equipment of a workshop, and as a second piece alongside tools already in use. This is a tool on its own; further accessories are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
