Light Rust Wash from the Wargame Series range

Light Rust Wash is a toning liquid by AK interactive ready for immediate use. It is applied with a brush onto a painted surface, runs into the recesses and engraved lines and once dry leaves a fine rust-colored deposit in them. A lighter tone means that the effect stays discreet and does not overpower the color beneath it.

When to choose the lighter shade

Heavy corrosion suits wrecks and abandoned vehicles, but on a model that is meant to look used and yet maintained it reads as overdone. That is exactly where the lighter version comes in: it suggests corrosion on the edges, around the bolts and in the places where the finish is rubbed through, without turning the model into a ruin. It also proves itself on light base colors, where a dark wash would leave too hard a contrast, and on figures in smaller scales, where the effect has to be kept fine.

Working with the wash

• Shake the bottle before use so that the contents are even.
• Apply it deliberately into the recesses and at the details, not over whole areas.
• Draw the surplus off with a half-dry brush before it dries.
• Build the intensity up by repeating; one pass can always be followed by another.
• Handle thinning, cleaning and any varnishing according to the manufacturer's instructions on the label.
