A liquid pigment from the Liquid Pigments line in a black soot shade. The pigment is mixed into a liquid carrier, so it is applied with a brush exactly on the spot and once dry a dry matte layer remains, not a color film. With soot that matters: real soot is deeply matte and does not reflect light, which black paint from a standard line can never achieve. The BLACK SOOT shade belongs on gun muzzles, exhausts, jet nozzles, the area around bullet strikes and scorched surfaces. It is used sparingly, because black is the easiest shade to overdo. The volume of the package, the type of carrier and the composition are given on the label from the manufacturer.

Use

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before use; the pigment settles to the bottom.
• Apply onto a matte surface; on gloss the black pigment does not hold and spreads.
• Take little onto the brush and build the tone up in layers. Black can always be added, hardly ever taken away.
• Lay the pigment in the direction the exhaust gases would flow: back from the muzzle, along the surface from the exhaust.
• Once it has dried, pick the surplus up with a dry brush or a cotton bud; on edges a stiffer dry brush works too.
• Seal the finished effect with a pigment fixer or a matte varnish, otherwise it smudges easily.

For modelers of vehicles and aircraft who need smoke staining around exhausts, gun barrels and nozzles, and for builders of dioramas with fire, a blaze or wrecks. It also comes in useful on steam locomotives, ships' funnels and on figures and tabletop gaming terrain where a trace of fire is needed.
