A set of five shades for German aircraft after the reunification of Germany, three to the FS standard and two to the German RAL scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
After 1990 the Luftwaffe left the busy green-and-brown camouflage behind and moved to a cool gray scheme meant to hide the aircraft against the sky rather than against the ground. The change took in the Tornados, the upgraded F-4F ICE Phantoms and the MiG-29 fighters taken over from the East German National People's Army, and at the close of the 1990s the incoming Eurofighter completed it.
The set contains five shades. Three come from the US Federal Standard: Medium Grey 35237, Light Ghost Grey 36375 and Dark Ghost Grey 36320. The remaining two are German tones from the RAL scale, namely Basaltgrau 7012 and Steingrau 7030, which appeared on older types and on helicopters. Together they therefore cover both the transitional schemes of the early 1990s and the purely gray finishes of the first years of the new millennium.
If you are building a Tornado in the IDS or ECR version, the pair of German RAL tones will mostly see you through. On the taken-over MiG-29s and on aircraft from the turn of the millennium, by contrast, the light grays from the Federal Standard come into play, which appeared on German aircraft only with the move to a uniform finish.
The shades are prepared above all for an airbrush. Shake the contents of the bottle thoroughly before work so that the settled pigment is mixed back in, and reach for a thinner from the same manufacturer; a foreign thinner can curdle the binder. On a well prepared base even a very thin coat holds, which is useful for the soft transitions between the gray fields.
The set consists of bottles of paint. It contains no model, no primer and no thinner.
