A set of six metallic acrylic shades: gold, brass, copper, silver, steel and a dark gunmetal.
Responsibility details are not available.
Metallics do not work like ordinary paints. They carry tiny flakes which, as the paint dries, lay themselves onto the surface like scales and reflect light. Everything else follows from that: the pigment settles to the bottom faster than with ordinary paints, so stirring before work is not a recommendation but a condition. The smoother the base, the better the flakes line up and the sharper the shine that results.
The warm trio - gold, brass and copper - belongs on cartridge cases, taps, valve bodies and decorative elements. The cold trio serves differently: silver creates freshly exposed metal where the paint has been rubbed away, the steel tone matches worn surfaces and the dark gunmetal shade belongs on barrels, breeches and track links. Mixing them with one another produces transitions that would look too conspicuous on their own.
Lay the paint on thinly and rather in two passes - a thick coat scatters the flakes and the shine is lost. A black or dark gray gloss base suits metallics and deepens the effect noticeably.
Once dry, the surface takes dark glazes and dry pigments alike, with which the metal is dirtied and divided into polished and neglected places. Anyone who wants to go further can burnish the tops of the edges with the lead of a soft pencil; that gives the graphite tint typical of long-used tools. A protective coat is in order only where the model will be handled, because even a matte varnish dulls the metallic shine slightly. Brushes and a model do not come with the paints.
