A small modeling vise with parallel jaws. It holds a small part firmly in one position, so both of your hands stay free while you work.
Responsibility details are not available.
A vise holds the workpiece for you. In modeling work that matters every time a part needs both hands: when drilling, filing and sanding, when dressing mating surfaces, when straightening wire, or when gluing with super glue, where the joint has to stay still for a while. Holding a part in your fingers is always a compromise by comparison, and with small parts it is also a way to hurt yourself with a blade or a drill bit.
The jaws close in parallel, so they touch the part across their whole face and not just along the top edge. A small object is held more securely, it is marked less and it has no tendency to twist under load. On small parts, where the contact face is only a few millimeters, that is a noticeable difference.
Tighten only as hard as it takes to hold the part; more force adds nothing and harms soft material. Thin plastic, resin castings and photo-etched sheet deserve a soft pad between the jaw and the part, and a strip of leather, paper or thin plastic is enough. After work, clean dust and filings off the jaws and keep the moving thread clean. The jaw opening, the jaw width and the way it mounts to the bench top are stated by the manufacturer.
Models, material and tools beyond the contents of the package are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
