The U-STAR modeling workstation

A workstation is not a tool for one activity but a base for a whole bench. It brings together the surface on which you build and storage space, so that a modeler does not have to spread tools and part-built pieces loose over the bench top. The main benefit is order. The small parts that are lost most easily in modeling stay together and within reach, and when you interrupt the work you can set a part-built model aside without its scattering around the room.

The second advantage is protection of the bench. Working with glues, paints and sharp tools leaves permanent marks on furniture, so a dedicated work surface is practical even when you model on a bench that serves other purposes too. The station suits building, cleaning parts up, gluing and small brush painting. For spraying with an airbrush, add a separate spray booth to it.

Use

• Divide the space into zones, one for tools, a second for part-built pieces and a third for the work itself.
• Put the smallest parts into containers with lids rather than loose on the surface.
• Use a separate cutting mat for cutting, so that the work surface is not scarred.
• Wipe spilled paint and glue off at once, as dried residue is markedly harder to remove.
• Combine work at the station with good lighting from above, as a shadow on the work surface tires the eyes.

Who the station is for

For modelers who do not have a permanently dedicated workshop bench and need to have their equipment in one place, and for those who want their tools arranged within reach. It comes into play when building kits, figures and small accessories.

The station contains no tools, paints or glues. When working with solvents and glues, ventilate and protect the work surface from damage.
