A basic set of ten modeling tools: two screwdrivers, three files, two pairs of tweezers, side cutters, a knife and a parts separator.

Anyone building a first kit usually finds that scissors and a kitchen knife are not enough. This set answers precisely that moment: it holds the tools for taking parts off the sprue, cleaning up sprue gate remnants and handling small components, without having to buy them one by one.
The cutters part the piece from the sprue so that only a small nub is left, which a file then levels. The triangular section suits inside corners, the half-round grooves and curves. Curved tweezers hold a component at an angle in which the gluing face is visible, while straight ones suit photo-etched parts and small accessories. The knife cleans up mold seam lines and removes burrs.
The cutters are not meant for metal materials, as their edge would be damaged. Files are cleaned with a brush so that plastic does not clog the teeth and then scratch the surface. After work it is a good idea to wipe the tools and store them so that the tips do not touch. The set suits a first workshop kit-out as well as a supplement for someone who divides tools between several workplaces.
Once more demanding builds come along, it is worth adding fine-grit sanding sponges, a pin vise for small holes and glue with a needle applicator to this base. The tools listed stay useful further on; only the range of jobs grows.
