A lacquer set of six shades for Brazilian combat aircraft. It covers the silvery coat of the early Mirage, the later two-gray camouflage and the French gray-blue tones of the Mirage 2000 machines.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Brazilian Air Force took over the Mirage III at the start of the 1970s and designated it in its own way, that is F-103E for the single-seat and F-103D for the two-seat version. For the first seven years or so they flew in a silvery finish that imitated bare metal. Toward the end of the decade came a repaint into a two-gray camouflage with a darker upper and a lighter lower surface, and the machines served out their time in it until the middle of the first decade of the new century. They were replaced by used French Mirage 2000B and C, for which the local designation changed to F-2000B and F-2000C. Those already wore the typically French gray-blue tones with a darker radome.
The silvery shade is the most demanding of all six. Metallic pigments need a smooth and glossy base, otherwise the difference between a polished panel and a matte area is wiped out. It is applied in one thin pass and going over it again is not recommended, because a second application ruffles the pigment and the area turns gray.
The remaining five shades are matte and behave in the ordinary way. Wait until the coat has hardened before applying a clear coat over it.
