Neko Galaxy - Val-K 1:10

Neko Galaxy - Val-K 1:10

The bust Val-K from the Neko Galaxy series in the Green Stuff World range, in 1:10 scale. A collector's format meant for display and for looking at from a short distance.

Light does half the result

With busts, more than with anything else, the way of lighting changes the impression a piece makes. A sharp point light from above deepens the shadows under the brows and the chin and the piece looks more dramatic. Diffused light, by contrast, levels the volumes out and brings the color transitions forward. Collectors therefore usually set a bust in a display case at eye level and place the light slightly from above and from the side, never straight from the front. It is worth playing with the placement before a final place is set aside for a piece, because the same object can look like two different things under two different lightings.

When a bust deserves a photograph

• a neutral background with no pattern, so that it does not compete with the face
• two light sources, the main one from the side and a weaker one from the other side to fill the shadow
• focus on the eyes, because a shot is read by them
• shoot from the eye level of the character, not looking down on it

Who Val-K will interest

For collectors who not only display pieces but also photograph and share them, and for modelers looking for a format on which it pays to experiment with contrast. In this respect a bust is more rewarding than a whole figure, because it fits into a frame complete and no compromise has to be found between the face and the rest of the character. The designation of the series and the name of the character stay in the manufacturer's original wording.
