Six luminous acrylic shades for saturated signal finishes. The set brings together fluorescent yellow, magenta, orange, green and blue with a luminous orange and aims at modern racing and warning surfaces.
Responsibility details are not available.
Luminous pigments behave differently from ordinary modeling shades. They do not rely only on reflecting light but absorb part of the incoming radiation and return it in a narrow band, so that the surface looks as though it glows slightly of its own accord. That is exactly why they are used where something is meant to be seen at first glance: on rescue vehicles, on training targets, on warning stripes and on modern racing bodywork.
The package brings six shades together. Five of them belong to the fluorescent group – yellow, magenta, orange, green and blue – and the sixth is a luminous orange, which has denser coverage and behaves rather more calmly. Together they form a range from which practically every modern signal tone can be mixed, from rescue lime to a saturated racing pink-orange gradient.
The undercoat plays a decisive role. Luminous pigments have by their nature poor covering power, and applied straight onto dark plastic or over a gray primer they stay dull. Spray a white coat first, therefore, and lay thin translucent applications over it until the color builds to full depth. Two to three light coats give a better result than one thick one.
Luminous pigments are sensitive to sunlight and fade after long exposure. It is therefore sensible to cover a finished model with a varnish that protects against ultraviolet light and not to display it permanently in a window.
