AMMO Oilbrusher Light Fading Set — a set of oil paints for a faded look

A set of three Oilbrusher oil paints from AMMO (Mig Jimenez), put together for so-called light fading — the lightening and bleaching of a surface that imitates a sun-beaten, weather-worn and worn-out finish. The binder is oil, so this is neither an acrylic (water) nor an enamel (solvent). Each bottle has a built-in fine applicator brush and a dosing system that wipes off the excess, so the oil goes straight onto the model without being worked out on a palette. The three shades are chosen so that together they build a convincing transition from darker to lighter, faded tones.

Use

• Put dots of the lighter shades in the centers of surfaces and panels and blend them out to nothing.
• For blending and softening use a clean brush moistened in mineral spirits (white spirit) or an odorless thinner — never water.
• Work on a dry, varnished base so that you can wipe the oil off and adjust it without harm.
• Build the faded look up gradually, in fine layers; oil gives you time to fine-tune the result.
• Oil paints dry slowly — let the layer cure before the next step.
