A modeler's collection of paints grows faster than a collection of kits, and with no fixed place for it, it becomes an obstruction on the bench. A stand lines the bottles up in regular rows, lets them stand upright and makes it possible to take them all in at a glance, so that looking for a shade does not hold the work up.

What you gain on the bench

Above all, the risk of knocking an open paint over onto a model in progress while reaching for a tool drops markedly. A regular arrangement also helps keep track of your reserve, so that you do not buy a shade you already have a second time and, conversely, notice in time which one is running out. A tidy bench also shortens the preparation before every session at the model.

Recommendations for use

• Put the stand on the opposite side from your working hand; it will cut down needless movements over the model.
• Order the paints by shade, not by manufacturer; the choice then goes by memory and by eye.
• Put metallics and heavily pigmented paints where you can reach them, as they need shaking every time.
• Close the bottles every time; a neck glued shut is the most common reason paint goes to waste.
• Before you buy, compare the size of your bottles with the data on the packaging of the stand.
