Responsibility details are not available.
A dry powder pigment from Lifecolor in the shade of red-brown dried mud. It is laid on dry with a brush and aims at soils with a high iron content, which occur from the south of Europe through Africa to parts of Asia and America. It is also the strongest color accent commonly used in a dust palette, so it calls for rather more thought than the neutral tones.
Soil, not rust
The main trap of this shade is being mistaken for corrosion. Rust and soil behave in opposite ways. Corrosion is local, tied to damaged paint, edges, welds and rubbed places, and runs down from there in narrow traces. Soil, by contrast, is across an area, holds low by the running gear and around the wheel wells and has no point source. If you spread the red pigment over the upper surfaces, the eye reads it as extensive corrosion and the model will look neglected in a way you did not intend.
Always in combination
Used on its own, a red tone tends to be too raw. It works well to lay it down as an underlayer and calm it from above with a neutral dust shade, or else to brighten a finished brown-gray patina with it only spot by spot. An unfixed coat can be taken off with a dry brush as you go, so the ratio of the two components can be fine-tuned until it suits. Always look at the work from a greater distance as well, because up close red looks weaker than it reads on the whole model.
A dry pigment is a loose powder. Do not work with it in a draft, do not breathe it in, do not blow the excess off with your mouth and wash your hands after work. Keep out of the reach of children.
