A bust in resin in 1:12 scale showing a pirate captain around the year 1700. It is neither a kit of a vehicle nor a finished decorative object, but a figure model that a modeler assembles and paints themselves. The 1:12 format gives plenty of room for well worked modeling of the face, the hair and the folds of the clothing, so the bust works both as a display piece in its own right and as material for practicing the painting of skin.
The figure of the captain refers to the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, when privateering and open piracy overlapped in the Caribbean and in the Indian Ocean. The commander of a vessel was set apart from the rest of the crew more by the quality and the origin of his clothing than by a uniform - a coat of civilian or naval cut, a hat and a personal weapon belonged to the usual outfit. This freedom is an advantage for figure painters: the color approach is not tied to a regulation and leaves room for your own reading.
Wash the casting first in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting block off with a saw and sand the cut; use protection for your airways while sanding resin. Make the joints with super glue, and on larger faces a short pin of wire helps. After degreasing, apply a thin primer. Skin is best built up with oil paints, on which the transitions can still be blended while wet; clothing and metal accessories can be managed with acrylics applied in thin coats. Contrast in the result comes above all from working with the shadow in the folds, not from the saturation of the base color.
The bust is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
