Plastic Bases - Oval Pill 75x42mm AOS

An oval gaming base measuring 75x42 mm from Green Stuff World. It serves as the footing under a model on the gaming table and determines the area the model occupies there. It is not a display base for a cabinet.

How an oval behaves in a close formation

Oval bases fit together differently from angular ones. Side by side they touch along only a short stretch of the circumference and empty places are left between the ends of neighboring ovals, so a formation never holds its shape the way a block of squares does. On the other hand they can be set out in an arc or in a loose skirmish line without looking careless. The 75x42 mm format is noticeably bulkier than the smallest oval and is used where a model already overhangs a smaller base, typically with riders, larger animals and two-figure groups. The difference of seventeen millimeters in length adds up across a formation, so the same number of models takes up a considerably wider piece of table.

What to keep in mind when mounting

• Keep the long axis pointing one way; the formation then looks uniform.
• With a rider, watch that the rear of the model does not overhang the back end.
• Allow for a gap being left between the ends of the ovals in a row.
• Keep the circumference clean so that measuring from the nearest point is possible.

Who it is for

For players with riders, larger animals and models in a sweeping pose, for which a smaller oval is no longer enough. And for collectors who want their own collection standardized on the oval format and are adding a particular size to it.
