Round plastic figure bases 30 mm in diameter. They have a raised rim, so the inner area is recessed: material for the surface can be poured or spread into the recess and it then sits flush with the outline of the base instead of standing on it like a pancake. A diameter of 30 mm is among the common sizes for tabletop games and collector figures.
They make the look of a whole group of figures uniform, replace a damaged original base, and also serve where you are transplanting a figure onto a different footing from the one it was on. Thanks to the recessed area you can comfortably get sand, fine gravel, grass material or modeling paste onto it.
Glue the figure to the base first and only then finish the surface, otherwise it is hard to work around the legs. Loose materials are laid into a layer of glue or thin paste and, once dry, are gone over with thinned glue so that they hold. The rim of the base is usually left clean and painted in a single color, because a sharp transition between rim and surface looks better than a blurred one. Before painting, wash and degrease the plastic and use a primer; without it the paint rubs off a smooth surface.
