A large area means different behavior on the table

Five centimeters on a side is a format on which a model stops hiding. It occupies a whole square of space, gets into narrow passages between terrain less easily and, in a clash, more opponents reach it at once, because every edge offers a long contact line. The advantage is stability: a wide footprint holds even a model with a high center of gravity or a strongly leaning pose. The large area is also extra room you can use scenically and make the base part of the scene, without having to touch the figure itself. At the same time the square shape still lets models be lined up precisely side by side.

What to keep in mind when mounting

• Seat the figure in the center, otherwise the model leans when an edge is touched.
• Balance a tall model with mass placed as low above the base as possible.
• Use the free area around it for scenic work so that the rim does not look empty.
• Keep the edges and corners clean, for lining models up into a line and for measuring.
