About product

The calculation run from the other side

A sheet 15 x 30 cm with the lengthwise pattern of standing metal joints. The groove spacing is 6.3 mm, which is a third more than on the finest variant of this group of four.

With the previous spacing it makes sense to count from the sheet to the building. Here it pays to reverse the direction and start at the model. Say you are building in 1:72 and want seams every five hundred millimeters. Five hundred divided by seventy-two works out at seven millimeters, so you are looking for a sheet somewhere around that value. A spacing of 6.3 mm corresponds in the same reduction to a joint every four hundred and fifty-four millimeters, which is inside the real range and nobody will notice the difference from the ideal.

What is more interesting is that the same sheet also stands up some way further off. In 1:87 the spacing works out at five hundred and fifty millimeters, that is, credible roofing again. One sheet thus covers two usual reductions without looking out of place in either. That does not happen often with textured surfaces and it is why this spacing in particular tends to be the first choice for shelters and halls.

On the finished roof do not forget the ridge and the flashing at the chimney; these are not on the sheet and are added from strips of thin plastic. Without them the surface looks like an unfinished panel.

Deal with a roof light or a hatch by cutting the opening along two neighboring grooves and edging it with thin plastic. A cut led across the pattern is visible at first glance, whereas a cut along a seam merges with the surface. The same rule applies to the hip of a hipped roof, where two parts meet at an angle: miter them and run a narrow edging over the joint, which on a real building corresponds to the capping metal.

FAQ

Divide the seam spacing you want by the reduction figure. Five hundred millimeters divided by seventy-two gives seven millimeters, so a spacing of 6.3 mm is very close.

Because real seaming has a wide range. A spacing of 6.3 mm works out at four hundred and fifty-four millimeters in one case and five hundred and fifty in the other, and both are credible.

The ridge cap and the flashing around the chimney. They are not on the sheet and are made from a strip of thin plastic.

Yes, it is scored with a knife and snapped. Lead the cut along a groove and the edge will then sit in the pattern.
