A scenic accessory for dioramas and layouts in HO scale, that is 1:87, from the American label Woodland Scenics. The name says two substantial things. The poles are pre-wired, that is supplied with the line already on them, so the most tiresome part of the work falls away, namely stringing the filament between the insulators. And they have a single crossbar, that is one horizontal crossarm at the top, to which the line is fastened.
A row of poles along a road or a line is one of the most effective ways to give a scene direction and rhythm. The repeating uprights lead the viewer's eye from the foreground to the background and give a diorama a depth that the terrain by itself will not make. At the same time the poles reveal that the place is inhabited and tied into the world around it, even when there is no building in the shot.
Set the poles at a regular spacing and if possible in one straight line; irregularity does harm here. Leave the line with a slight sag, as a perfectly straight line gives a model away at first glance. At the foot of each pole suggest grass or beaten earth, so that the accessory does not sit on a bare surface. A single crossarm answers rather to branch lines and less heavily loaded stretches; a main route will bear the version with two crossarms.
