A rock face without a mold and without mixing

Creating a vertical rock face is one of the most laborious parts of building terrain: it calls for a mold, plaster, time to set and then several coats of paint on top of that. This item skips the whole procedure. The package holds finished castings, which it is enough to seat and work into the terrain around.

The dimensions and the number

The package carries four pieces. They are the largest formations of the whole line: the length ranges between 17.8 and 18.4 cm, the height between 7.6 and 9.2 cm. Four castings are therefore not few, as the area covered corresponds to a continuous band over seventy centimeters long.

Composing them into an area

The shaping of the castings allows for composition. They adjoin one another side by side as well as one above the other, so a face higher and longer than a single piece can be built from them without an unnatural joint being left between them. Anyone who needs only one rock by the track or above a road cutting will of course use a casting on its own.

The surface and the color

The pattern of the surface differs on every piece and the color toning is applied by hand, so two neighboring castings never match. It is precisely the repetition of the same pattern that gives away the artificial origin of a rock fastest. The color can be fine-tuned with a thin layer of pigment or a glaze, while the joints between the pieces are masked by a little fine stone and low vegetation at the foot of the face.

Placing it in the scene

A tall face on its own looks like a backdrop stood up flat. It gains when a few small stones get in front of it, slid rubble at the foot and a hint of growth spilling over the edge at the top. Only the difference between a sharp rock front and soft surroundings gives an area depth.
