Eight shades of the Dutch helicopter arm: from the olive Alouette through the NATO camouflage of the Cougars to the gray NH90 and one ceremonial blue.

Volume one is devoted entirely to rotary-wing machines and traces how their appearance moved from single-color finishes to camouflage and finally back to a uniform gray from the 1970s on.
The starting point is Yellow Olive (RAL6014). From the early 1980s it was worn overall by the light Alouette III, and from the 1970s to the mid-1990s also by the Bo-105.
From the mid-1990s the three-color NATO camouflage came in, made up of NATO Green (FS34094), NATO Brown (FS30051) and NATO Black (FS37030). It appeared on the AS532U2 Cougar Mk2 and on the Bo-105CB version; the green tone also served as the overall color of the heavy CH-47D Chinook.
The AH-64D Apache gunship stands apart. It is entirely in US Army Helicopter Drab (FS34031), the same as in American service, and differs sharply from the rest of the fleet.
The newer approach is represented by Gunship Grey (FS36118), the overall color of the transport machines including the Cougars and the newer CH-47F, and by the lighter Light Gull Grey (FS36440) on the naval NH90 version and on the P-3 Orion patrol aircraft in their final form.
The eighth bottle is ceremonial. Cobalt Blue (RAL5013) belonged to the Alouette III machines reserved for government flights; their unit was disbanded in 2015.
The box is therefore usable across the whole helicopter arm. Anyone building several aircraft from one base can cover both the camouflaged and the single-color machines out of it, without reaching for shades one at a time.
