A modeling pigment in a sand shade. A fine colored powder for dust deposits and dry earth on vehicle models and dioramas.

A pigment is a fine colored powder with no binder, applied dry to a model and settling exactly where dust would lie on a real vehicle: in corners, around rivets and hinges, on the underside of a hull, and around the running gear. Compared with paint applied by brush, it looks matte and discontinuous, so the layer reads as a deposit, not a coat. The sand shade is one of the most widely used, since it suits dry, dusty terrain and also works well as a base for darker deposits.
Work only on a finished, fully dry paint job. Pick up the powder with a soft brush and spread it with light strokes, then tap off or carefully wipe away the excess. Build it up in layers, and go lightly rather than heavily — it is easy to remove more, but an overdone deposit is much harder to fix. To fix the pigment permanently, use a fixative made for pigments, and expect the shade to darken slightly once fixed. Test it on a scrap of plastic first.
It works best on military equipment and dioramas, where dust follows the logic of movement: behind wheels, on mudguards, on footboards and anywhere a person leans against the vehicle. On aircraft, use it sparingly, since grime there tends to concentrate in narrow streaks.
A fixative, brushes and paints are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
