A weathering pencil lead in the warm brown sepia shade. It is drawn directly onto a finished model, where it creates chipping, water streaks and brings out edges.

Sepia is a warm brown tone somewhere between black and rust. On a model it manages what pure black cannot: it brings out seams, rivets and recesses without outlining them in a hard line, and it looks natural on wood, leather, ropes and on older paintwork. It therefore suits anywhere the shadow should be felt but should not look drawn in ink, that is mainly on figures, wooden surfaces and vehicles with a dusty coloring.
The lead is held in the hand like a pencil, so the mark appears exactly where you put it and its strength is set by the pressure. That is an advantage on small chips on edges, on thin streaks below drain holes and on hairline scratches, which are hard to draw with a brush. The drawing stays dry, nothing runs anywhere and it can be assessed at leisure and added in layers.
