As soon as terrain grows beyond the size of a single view, the width of the material starts to matter. Every joint between two strips is a place where the overlaps have to be laid over each other, leveled and then masked. The wider the strip, the fewer such places arise on the same area, and that is why this version makes sense anywhere a whole module or a large board is being built.
The package carries one roll 45.7 cm wide with a length of 183 cm. Compared with the narrower version of the same material the strip is twice as wide, so a whole side of a hill or the bottom of a valley comes out of a single cut. The area of the roll works out at roughly eight tenths of a square meter.
The strip is springy and strong at the same time: it lets itself be bent, pressed in and straightened again, while remembering the position it was last put into. It therefore needs no supporting frame under it. Together with plaster a hard and at the same time thin shell surface arises once it has set, one that can be worked further.
Besides model landscape the material is used for stage pieces, for display bases and in studio work, where it is precisely the ability to hold any shape without internal reinforcement that suits. The manufacturer designates it as patented. Scissors and an area on which the roll can be unrolled are enough for the work.
It pays off to plan out where the edges of the cut pieces will run. It is best to lead them into places where there will be a division in the terrain anyway: along the foot of a slope, into a bed or under the edge of a road. Nobody looks for a transition there, whereas in the middle of a smooth meadow it would be visible even after the plaster has been applied.
