A reference publication on equipment with the Czechoslovak designation model 20. Illustrative and textual documentation for builders of interwar armament, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The abbreviation vz. belongs to Czech military nomenclature and is written out as vzor, meaning model; the figure after it gives the year in which the design was taken into service. Model 20 therefore points to 1920, to the first years of the building of the Czechoslovak armed forces. The young army was then building on materiel inherited from the Austro-Hungarian monarchy while at the same time looking for production facilities of its own. The Skoda works in Plzen were at that time among the largest armament enterprises in central Europe and their products went far beyond the borders of the republic.
Period photographs tend to be small and low in contrast, so detail cannot be read from them. A specialized volume, by contrast, brings together archive photographs, technical drawings and color profiles. From these the shape of small components, the position of lettering and the shade of the finish can all be read off. It is these very things that decide the credibility of finished work far more strongly than the gluing of the parts itself.
This is a work of reference, not a kit, so what you are buying is reading matter and a set of illustrations. For builders of interwar machinery a title like this tends to be the surest safeguard against a typical error: inferring the details from another, only apparently related piece. Skoda designs differed between production batches in small things which merge at a cursory glance, and the difference between the early and the late form of the same model can give away a wrong subject on a model faster than anything else.
