Three-color camouflage and its weak point

A camouflage composed of three colors looks after spraying like three separate areas printed next to one another, because each one was applied on its own and none knows about the one beside it. A real vehicle never gives that impression: dust, damp and light pull all the shades toward one another. The brownish tone from this set does exactly that. It is run over all three colors at once, shifts each of them a little toward warmth and the camouflage begins to look like one finish rather than three pieces stuck together.

Rust and the bluish cast of metal

The strong orange is the most saturated of the three. It does not belong over a whole area but in the places where rust really holds: at a scuffed weld, on the edge of a fender, at the mounting of the exhaust. Thinned down it can even warm up a whole sheet-metal roof. The clear blue product, by contrast, has almost no saturation and is intended for bare metal, that is, for the running gear, the track links or the barrel. After it the metal gains a cool undertone that it otherwise lacks, because silver on its own looks flat.

A note on the work

The shades complement one another and it tends to be better to use them one after another than all at once. First comes the overall unification, and only then the local rust and the cool metal, because otherwise the brownish tone would immediately override it again. For a test it is advisable to prepare a scrap of plastic sprayed with the same camouflage as the model and to try the shade there first. It saves the disappointment of the moment when it turns out that the unification shifted the green further toward brown than you intended. The package contains three bottles and nothing else.
