A weathering paste from the Splash Gel line of the Spanish brand Green Stuff World. The compound is thick and holds a three-dimensional shape once applied, so that a droplet with real volume comes out of it, not just a patch of color. The Flaming Red shade is a saturated red: the color of white-hot metal, of magma and, in grim fantasy subjects, of whatever you imagine behind a red splatter yourself.

Where the effect belongs

• In the lower third of the model, where real splash from the ground would reach.
• On leading edges, shields, the boots of figures and front surfaces, that is where the model drives or runs into something.
• On the edges of a base, so that the scene is visually tied in with the figure.
• Never evenly over the whole model, because a regular scatter looks artificial and kills the effect.

How to work with the paste

It is picked up on a bristle brush and flicked with the thumb, or carried over with a stick and left to run when you want a longer trail. A smaller amount looks more convincing than a lot: start sparingly, assess it at arm's length and only then add more. Damp paste can still be picked up with a damp brush, while dry paste is hard to correct.

Who it is for

For players who want an army marked uniformly by the same trace, and for painters of individual figures, where the result is decided in just a few places. Red is the most conspicuous of the whole line, so try it on a test piece before you let it onto a finished model.
