Six acrylic paints for figures in the German splinter camouflage pattern, including a skin tone.
Responsibility details are not available.
The German splinter pattern, known as Splittertarnmuster, came about at the start of the 1930s first for shelter quarters and from there it spread to tunics, helmet covers and the smocks of airborne units. Its hallmark is sharp geometric areas of green, brown and gray, across which a fine rain of thin dashes runs.
Six shades wait in the box: a red brown, an Italian camouflage green, a dark brown, a gray intended precisely for the splinter pattern, an olive green and a supplementary tone of sun-tanned skin. The last of these turns the set into a complete answer for the whole figure and not just for its gear.
In reduction the splinter pattern is never copied literally but simplified. The proven sequence of steps looks like this: first lay down the base green, then with a brush with short cropped hair stipple out the brown and gray areas with sharp edges, and only at the end add the thin dashes with heavily thinned paint. The material is water-thinnable, the shades mix with one another without trouble and once dry they hold a matte finish. Where the pattern runs over a fold of the fabric, guide it so that it narrows in the bend and widens again at the crest. Only that makes the eye believe it is printed cloth and not a stuck-on picture.
