Spot-On Pigment No. 08 Black Earth Textured

A loose modeling pigment from the numbered Spot-On line by VMS. The item carries the sequence number No. 08 and the shade name Black Earth Textured. The word Textured is part of the name and within the line it sets the textured versions apart from their smooth counterparts, in this case from No. 07 Black Earth. The product is supplied as a powder and is applied with a brush dry or mixed into a suitable liquid.

Use

• Heavier earthy deposits where the surface is meant to be noticeable, that is on fenders, the underside of a bed and in wheel arches.
• Dried mud on tracks and at the ends of the running gear.
• Textured ground surfaces on a base or in a diorama.
• A complement to the smooth shade No. 07 where there is to be a transition between fine dust and coarser dirt.

Work tips

A textured material comes into its own best in the places where real dirt would build up in a layer, not on large flat surfaces. Apply it a part at a time and let the surface rest between the individual layers so you can see as you go how the coarseness shows. For a smooth transition to the cleaner areas, soften the edges of the deposit with a dry brush. Combining it with smooth shades of the same line gives a more realistic result than a single layer.
