Starship Sludge Bay from the OILBRUSHER line is an oil paint for modelers, supplied in a 10 ml bottle whose cap also serves as a fine brush. The paint comes from the factory with a ready-to-use consistency, so it is applied straight from the bottle, with no palette and no mixing with thinner. It is a modeling paint, or rather a chemical product — not a kit or a part for a model. The shade is mixed as a murky, dirty sludge: deposits, grease, and spilled operating fluids of the kind found in the technical and engine spaces of spaceships, mechs, and robots.

Use

• The sci-fi focus of the shade does not rule out ordinary vehicles — it works just as well on industrial machinery, ships, grimy engine bays, chassis, and tanks.
• It is used for dirtying and shading, spotting, and creating streaks and deposits — not as an overall opaque coat.
• Apply a dot or a dash with the brush and spread it with a clean brush in the direction the grime would run; you control the strength of the effect by how much you spread it.
• The paint dries slowly, so it stays workable for a long time — this is the main advantage over acrylics, giving you time to fine-tune the effect or wipe it off entirely.
• It is thinned and cleaned up with an odorless thinner (mineral spirits), not water.
• Apply it to a cured, varnished surface — ideally over dried varnish, which protects the paint underneath while you spread the effect.

For sci-fi and mech modelers, but also for builders of military vehicles, ships, and dioramas who want to quickly and precisely dirty detailed areas without setting up oils on a palette. Thanks to the brush in the cap, it also suits beginners just starting out with oils.
