A display plinth with a conically tapered body and a square footprint of 5 x 5 cm. It is the largest size of this form of plinth and allows for a larger bust or a figure with a wider stance standing on it. The word Black refers to the dark version.
The conical shape has a simple optical job: it is wider at the bottom and narrower at the top. The eye thus reads the plinth as a firm foundation and rises naturally up to the model. With larger busts this effect matters more than with miniatures, because the model itself has a mass of its own and needs a surface beneath it that carries it visually too. The footprint of 5 x 5 cm gives room even to busts with a cloak, a lowered shoulder or an asymmetrical cut, where the outline markedly overhangs the axis of the model.
In photography it is useful that the model stands higher than the other objects on the table. The lens gets to the level of the chest of a bust and you do not have to shoot from above, which is a view that takes height away from a model. The dark version lets the color transitions on the model stand out and does not compete with it with a color of its own. In a display case a larger plinth then creates a distance from neighboring models by itself, so a collection does not merge into one continuous row.
