A shaping form for the inner lining of a tunnel in HO. Each casting makes half of a single-track or double-track section with a rock wall and a roof. Plaster is not included.
Responsibility details are not available.
More can be seen into a tunnel than a layout builder admits. All it takes is for a viewer to bend their head to the portal and they will see bare particle board or an empty hole. This form solves exactly this shortcoming: it lets the inner lining be cast with the texture of rock on the wall as well as on the roof, so a tunnel has depth even where a brush does not reach.
The procedure is described unambiguously. Fill the form with lightweight plaster using a spatula. One pouring makes half a section, either for one track or for two. Two halves are joined at the top with a strip of plaster cloth, which at the same time works as a flexible hinge. The finished pieces are then joined along one side into a longer tunnel, while the other side stays free and can be lifted whenever it is necessary to get to the track.
The castings are painted in the same way as rock faces outdoors, only with one difference: inside it should be darker and without sharp transitions of color. It is therefore worth reaching for a darker glaze and then adding a little soot at the portal, of the kind steam traction left behind. The light that falls into a tunnel from the entrance will do the rest of the work by itself. Anyone who wants to be sure lights the entrance with a flashlight and looks into the tunnel from the height of a viewer's eyes, not from above.
