The Weathering Magazine is a modeling magazine devoted entirely to finishes and to portraying wear. Each issue has a single theme, which is explored across several builds by different authors. The individual methods are laid out step by step and accompanied by photographs of the model in progress, so they can be followed even without advanced English.
Issue 12 carries the theme Styles. The subject is therefore the hand with which a modeler approaches the portrayal of wear, and how the individual approaches differ in degree, in color and in the choice of means. Examples by several authors stand side by side, and the reader can compare what each path does to a model and where it still pays to add and where to hold back.
The publication suits a modeler who already has the building in hand and wants to move their painting and weathering on. It is useful for builders of vehicles, aircraft and dioramas alike, because the principles described hold beyond any one category. The edition is in the English language version, though the pictures make sense even without reading the text.
Try every new method first on an offcut of plastic sprayed with the same paint as the model. With weathering it is the base that decides, that is the shade and the sheen of the layer beneath, and the same treatment lands differently on a matte and on a gloss finish every time.
The package contains the printed edition of the magazine only. Models, paints and pigments are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
