A white styrene sheet 1.0 mm with very coarse V-grooving, spacing 4.8 mm, depth 0.73 mm. The second widest spacing in the brand's range, intended for large scales and coarse planks. Sheet 150 x 300 mm.
Responsibility details are not available.
Just under five millimeters between the grooves corresponds to three sixteenths of an inch and puts the sheet on the second-to-last rung of the range the brand offers. The groove goes three quarters of a millimeter deep, so the shadow stays sharp even after two coats of varnish. The sheet thickness is a millimeter, which means a quarter of a millimeter of material is left under the bottom of the groove, and the material has to be handled a little more carefully than with the fine patterns.
Anyone building from veneer or from basswood strips gets the grain for free but pays for it in instability. Wood works, it bows after gluing, it soaks up thinner and its fibers go fluffy under sanding. Styrene has no growth rings and no fibers, so all the texture has to be created by hand, but it stays exactly where it was glued. Hence the difference in painting as well: wood takes a stain into its depth, plastic holds the color only on the surface, and so the shade is built up in thin coats on a dry surface. The substitute for the missing fiber is usually fine scribing with a sharp point run along the grooves and then washing a dark color into the scratches.
In 1:16 scale the spacing works out at a plank just under eight centimeters wide, in 1:12 scale at just under six, in 1:24 scale at almost twelve. The sheet is therefore used on large truck models, on boarded workshop floors, on the deck planking of ships and on barn doors where an individual board is to be clearly visible even from a distance.
