Wet Effects Fluid from AK interactive is an enamel (solvent-based) liquid that creates the impression of a wet, freshly soaked surface on a model: dampness, puddles, wet mud, rivulets of running water. It is modeling chemistry, not a kit: the bottle with a volume of 35 ml contains a ready-made product for brush application.
An important note on the nature of the product: it is not a gloss varnish. The manufacturer describes it as a product developed specifically for dampness effects, which gives a varying intensity of gloss depending on the surface underneath. It is precisely that unevenness that makes the result convincing, because a real wet surface does not shine the same everywhere.
Stir the bottle before use. Apply it with a brush, with a fine brush aimed at the places where dampness would naturally collect and a wider brush for larger wet areas. Let it act and wipe the excess away with a brush dampened in a suitable thinner (mineral spirits, odorless turpentine); that blends the effect out and removes the sharp edges that would give the wetness away as a deposit of paint. Work in layers: a thin layer gives only a barely perceptible damp cast, while repeated layering in the same place creates a clearly wet area or a puddle.
A cured gloss varnish belongs under the effect. On a glossy and fully dried surface the excess wipes away cleanly and without smears, so you control where the wetness is and where the surface is dry, and with this effect that is absolutely essential.
Above all for diorama builders and for modelers of military vehicles who build scenes with rain, mud, a ford or a rutted field track. It works superbly as the last step of the weathering, after the dust and the pigments, so that the wetness appears where it should.
Safety: a solvent-based product, flammable. Do not work near an open flame. The vapors irritate the airways, so make sure the area is well ventilated and use a respirator with a filter for organic vapors during longer work. Protect your skin and eyes; gloves are in order. Keep out of the reach of children.
