Italian wartime shades for armored equipment: dark desert sand, two greens, khaki, gray-green tones and a rusty red.

Italian vehicles did not wear one settled finish. At home and in the Balkans gray-green tones appeared; in North Africa a dark desert sand prevailed, over which irregular green and brown-red blotches were sprayed or laid on with a brush. The six shades in this box cover both settings.
Besides the desert yellow and the Saharan khaki, the package holds a dark green, a lighter and a darker gray-green and a rusty red, which Italian workshops used both for blotches and as a base coat on some parts. The selection suits medium and light tanks, self-propelled guns, armored cars and tractors.
Italian blotches have soft edges only within a band a few millimeters wide; otherwise they are fairly high in contrast against the base. Lay them on with a short-bristled brush and then even the surface out with a thin glaze. The desert yellow lost saturation strongly through fading in the African sun, so a noticeably lighter tone belongs on the upper surfaces of a model. Apply the rusty red only once the green has dried, otherwise the two tones run together at the edges into an indeterminate brown.
