This kit of the WZ-10 attack helicopter from Hobby Boss is built without glue. The parts join by snap fittings, so you need neither glue nor experience of conventional building. The model is therefore a good first piece for a beginner, or a quick build for a single evening, and it can still be painted and finished later like any ordinary model. The scale is stated on the box, where it is usually printed.
The WZ-10, also designated the Z-10, is a Chinese attack helicopter with the layout usual for this kind of machine: a narrow fuselage, a tandem cockpit with the gunner in front and the pilot behind him in a higher position, short stub wings with pylons on the sides and a five-blade main rotor. The narrow profile of the fuselage reduces the frontal area of the machine and the faceted surfaces suppress the radar return. The machine is intended to support ground units and to fight armored vehicles. The Thunderbolt name is used with this type as an additional name.
Separate the parts from the sprue with sprue cutters rather than by twisting, and clean up the sprue nubs with a file or abrasive paper. The snap fittings on kits built without glue tend to be tight, so try the joints dry and do not force the parts; if they hold too firmly, chamfer the edges lightly. Fit the main rotor and the blades at the end, so that they do not get damaged during handling. If you want to paint the model, break it down into its main assemblies before building and spray on a primer, because paint holds badly on bare plastic. Mask the canopy glazing with tape. Weathering on helicopters stays restrained: a light emphasis of the panels, darker marks behind the exhausts and a little dust on the lower surfaces are plenty.
The model is supplied unassembled. Paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
